Description
This is an authentic private guided boat experience. You sail in a traditional Faroese boat – the utmost creation of Faroese handicraft. You learn about days when boats of this type were the lifeline of people along these shores. On your tour you hear stories about these people, their lives, their culture and their harvesting of the riches nature brought to them.
You sail out from the Árnafjørður marina and follow the eastern seashore by Mjóvin. Sailing close to the shore you see the varied landscape with ravines and grottoes. Along these shores you must keep your eyes open as seals have this area as their natural habitat. Up on the steep slopes you see grazing sheep and you learn about the keeping of these semi-wild animals.
You procede to Bergsmunnin and see the view east towards the island of Svínoy. You sail further along this spectacular coastline towards “Bergið”. There are some grottoes and in good weather it is possible to sail into one of them.
We bring fishing rods so that you can cast a line and try your fishing luck of the coast. Typical fish in the fiord are the Atlantic Cod, Haddock and Saithe. You may be in luck to catch the beautiful “Reyðfiskur” – a colorful red variation of the Atlantic Cod that assumes the colors og it’s seaweed habitat. Should you be blessed by mother nature with fish, you get to take the catch home with you to prepare for a wonderful meal! Nowhere on the planet can you find fish as tasty and fresh as this!
On your way towards the marina you cross the fjord towards “Kóphella” – The Seal Bedrock – and follow the western coastline.
You are likely to observe seabirds such as puffins, guillimot, razorbill, arctic tern, black guillimot and fulmar.
