Description
This is an authentic private fishing experience! You sail in a traditional Faroese boat – the utmost of Faroese handicraft. This Faroese boat was a lifeline of the people that settled the beautiful villages that you see along the coastline. With this boat people discovered rich fishing grounds. Now you can follow in their footsteps.
You sail from the marina north of the dam in Hvannasund on Viðoy. You sail along the eastern coastline of Viðoy towards Viðareiði. You see spectacular gorges and grottoes along the shore – perfect for photography. You are likely to see seabirds such as fulmar, black guillemot, arctic tern and puffins on your path.
Of the coast by Viðareiði between Viðoy and Borðoy you cast your fishing line. With high mountains to both sides this is a scenic natural amphitheatre. The area is known for good fishing and there are several interesting fishing spots to check out depending on weather and sea currents. While some areas are known for Atlantic Cod there are other where you will seek to catch Haddock and Whiting. You may also encounter other interesting species such as the Saithe and the Mackerel – good fighting fish and very tasty too!
On your return towards Hvannasund marina you follow the coastline of Borðoy sailing close by the abandoned village Múli. If you keep a keen eye out you may be in luck to sea seals along the seashore.
Should you be blessed by mother nature with catching fish, you get to take fresh fish with you. You may then choose to prepare a wonderful meal to serve to your loved ones! Nowhere on the planet can you find fish as tasty and fresh as this!
